We slept in pretty late because of the noise the night before, and were out around 10:30.  Headed to the Vatican. After leaving the metro, we stopped at a pizza place to pick up some slices to take with us. It was another hot day, and we were forced to stop on a sidewalk to eat the food. Tasted good, though.

We then walked to St. Peters square. I joined the long line into the church while the others walked around the square. Shortly after they joined me in the line, we realized that Kaitlin had lost her backpack. Amber and I went back to look for it but could not find it. I then rejoined the line from the back and waited through it again. When I rejoined the group, I discovered that they had Kaitlin’s pack back again, apparently it was turned in to lost and found.

The church was impressive. Very large. The marble floor seemed strangely festive for what was otherwise a pretty austere interior. Afterwards, I went to take the girls up into the dome, but the line was quite long and we decided not to do it. Instead, we walked toward the Vatican museums, only to discover that they were long since closed for the day.

By now it was almost 5, and still quite hot, so we headed back to our area and stopped at another pizza and pasta place and ate on the sidewalk. The girls like it, and I had a small pitcher of red wine, which was quite good.

From there we returned to the room. I then went back out to get a gelato. Back at the room, Kaitlin decided she wanted one too, so I took her back out to get one, and we got a granite for Amber as well, but she did not like it.
