Rough night. We basically slept straight through from 12:30 pm until the next morning. Except we didn’t really sleep too well once it got dark. Because of jet lag, it felt like time to wake up all night long. It was probably hardest for the girls, who didn’t really understand what was happening. Poor Kaitlin actually got up and started to get dressed for the day at around 9 pm. Every time you we about to fall asleep, someone outside would make a noise, or one of the girls would start talking, or something else would wake you up. We got through the night, but didn’t sleep much.
Once up, we headed off to the tube station – Paddington was our stop – and went to the British Museum. The locals kept giving us wrong directions, but eventually we found the place. Everyone was tired, so we just walked through a couple of the highlights – the Pharos, some Greek sculpture, the Rosetta Stone, a statue from Easter Island. There was also an exhibit on clocks and watches which Kaitlin and I enjoyed, and then we saw it again with Amber.
From there, we headed down to the river by the London Bridge and found a little lunch diner for lunch. It wasn’t especially good, and everyone was a little cranky. We crossed the river on the Tower Bridge and then walked the opposite bank by the Tower of London castle. From there we headed back to the hotel, stopping at the station to buy some bread and food.
After we ate, Phyllis and I left the girls with Judy and headed back down the river. We walked a full circle from Big Ben to the Millenium Bridge and back. It was beautiful with the old buildings lit up and the London Eye and all. My strongest memory was of the first look at Big Ben lit up against the twilight.
