Today after breakfast we went to Schloss Charlottenburg. After standing in a long line in the hot sun, we finally got inside. There was an audio tour with headphones, which was great. Gave you some of the history, and also made it more fun for the girls.
After the tour, we walked into the gardens and sat in the grass for a picnic of pretzels, fruit, and cookies. We played some in the grass, Judy dozed a bit, and then we walked the rest of the garden before heading back to the rooms. We napped for an hour or so, and then walked to McDonalds for dinner. Then we went to see Kaiser Wilhelm Gedenknis Kirche, which I recalled as being very beautiful the last time I saw it. It took forever to find it, though, because I did not have a map and had no wifi. Eventually some locals pointed us the way. But when we finally found it, we discovered that it is being renovated and is totally covered and hidden from view, and closed, so we could not see it. I’m not sure what the point of renovating bombed out war ruins is supposed to be, but there it is. So we walked through the Korfurstendam shopping district, then returned to the room to play cards with the girls before bed. Tomorrow, we move on to Amsterdam.
