We arrived in Copenhagen in the morning. It was still cool out, and we were pretty worn out from three night trains in a row, so we walked to the national history museum. They had a little child’s museum which wasn’t much, and also a section devoted to prehistory, which was ok. The was also a collection of doll houses that we saw.
From there, we walked looking for a place for lunch. It took a very long time to find anything, but we finally ate at a pub – I had chili, Phyllis had a sandwich, Judy and Kaitlin had “steak burgers” which turned to really be steaks, and Amber had nachos with cheese. My chili was great, but Amber would not eat hers and I had some of it as well. Kaitlin soldiered through her food even though I don’t think it was what she wanted.
By accident, we stumbled upon our hotel — the Generator Hostel – so we checked in. It turns out that it was a brand new place, only the second day in business, and we were the first to use our room. They even gave us a t-shirt and the girls some lanyards. The room was very clean, and more bunk beds for the girls.
Phyllis and Amber and I took a bus back to the train station to pick up our luggage from the lockers. We couldn’t pay for the bus because the machine wasn’t working so the driver let us go for free. Still, it seemed to take forever to get the stuff and get back to the room. We were all really tired by this point, after three nights in a row on the trains. We rested a bit in the room and then Phyllis and I took the girls to walk to see the little mermaid statue. It was maybe a mile and a half along the shore, looking at the ships and the Baltic sea. The girls really did not want to go at first but I think they eventually had a good time. Actually, a lot of the trip has been spent sort of forcing the girls to do things that they end up enjoying.
On the way back we walked past some sort of government buildings that had some decorative soldiers standing guard. I walked Kaitlin really close to one and he smiled at her, which was funny.
For dinner we got hot dogs from the street. Mine was “loaded” for some reason, with ketchup, cheese, onions and something crunchy and fried that I could not recognize. I ate it anyway.
Back at the room, we played crds together for an hour or so in the common area, and then went to sleep.
