Woke up and headed to the train station to go to Tours. At the station, however, we were told that there were no more places available for the train to Tours. Instead, we had to take a slow train all the way back down to Lyon and then transfer to a TGV to Paris, then another transfer to Tour. And pay extra for the privilege, of course.
The trains were fine, but truthfully the novelty has worn off, and it was a long travel day. We at least had reserved seats from Lyon on, and the TGV trains are fast and comfortable enough.
At Paris we had a ninety minute transfer during which we had to make our way to a different train station in the city. I asked at information and was directed to a city bus, which we took from Gare Lyon to Gare Montparnasse. The bus was absolutely packed, standing and squeezing room only, and it was rush hour so the bus was slow, and in the end we barely had enough time.
The train into Tours was comparatively peaceful. We emerged from the station and found our hotel just a block away, sort of tucked behind a McDonalds by the station. After dropping our stuff, we strolled the town a bit and had dinner at an outdoor cafe near the Hotel De Ville. I had some sort of chicken in a creamy broth, which tasted good but ended up making me a bit sick for the next few days. We then headed through the dark back to our room and turned in for the night.
